Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help Knowledgebase"
Gerade mal durchgelesen, geht schon in Ordnung.

Introduction
Dear Sim-Game Developers,
first of all let me say, that I am a Sim player from the beginning. I have all Sims 1 Expansion packs, except for Making Magic, and every single Sims 2 Expansion packs with several Stuff Packs. I love playing Sims, and it is one of my favorite hobbies.
Still, this Topic shouldn’t be one of those puff pieces you get every day. It should be a feedback and to make it easier to read, I will split it into different sections.
As an adult, and a loyal but censorious customer I must definitely say, that I am disappointed with your work over the past years.
Since the Sims 2 era is now over, I know it doesn’t make too much sense to criticize the game now, but maybe it helps me and others to enjoy future games more than we do now with the Sims 2. First of all, the base game was fantastic, and I don’t see any points I am disappointed with here, besides the bug that doesn’t let toddlers to be dressed. The first three expansion packs were nice, too. But since Pets, everything has gone worse.
About the Expansion packs
Even the title signalizes the lack of creativity. Pets is, to be honest, not half as good as Unleashed were. Of course, we have now two different heights for dogs, we have genetics, an extensive Create-a.-Pet tool: But what does all the genetic do, when it does not work properly? Two dogs with straight ears get floppy eared pups – and the other way round. Doesn’t make sense to me.
And what does all the variety of cats and dogs do to us, when the pets aren’t more than wandering decoration, that needs to be fed? The fact, that most players wanted pets in their games doesn’t mean the cute-factor is enough to be a great expansion pack. I am not talking about adding every idea of every member of the official boards into the game. I am talking about quality. Let me give you all an example of what I mean, and think back of the Sims 1 times: Cats and Dogs really made sense there. Since you were able to grow vegetables, you were lucky if you have a dog that chases the rabbits away, or a cat that kills the mice and give it to your Sim from time to time, as a present. It was realistic, it was cute, and it made pets a part of the family. In the Sims 2, the pets eat, sleep and poop. No mice, no rabbits, nothing to do for them. Even no cuddles together (remember how cute this were, in the Sims 1?)
Another example: The doorbell rings. If you had a dog, it depends on his character, if he ran and hide, or if he barked at the door, eventually bite any unwelcome neighbor. In the Sims 2, neither a dog nor a cat cares about strangers in the house, burglars, neighbors kicking the trash can (you couldn’t know how much I would like my cat to scratch them a bit when the annoying Sim does this ever and ever again).
The next thing that came to my mind, when I thought about comparing Pets and Unleashed, were the competitions. Let me say, I feel a bit rocked, that it was possible to include competitions into a Spin-off (Pet Stories), but not into an expansion for the base game. The competitions were a lot of fun to watch an train for. In Sims 2 we have jobs, but what does this jobs give us (beside Simoleons), if the pet just jumps into a car and is away for a lot of hours. Not only is it unrealistic, but also not very funny to watch.
To clarify this: I am not saying: “Make an exact copy of the Sims 1 expansions”, I am just saying I want to see something for my hard earned money, and would like to have more quality and love for the detail. The Sims 2 expansions have very less, than the Sims 1 Expansions ever had.
The next expansion pack, I would like to compare is Vacations vs. Bon Voyage.
I must admit, that I am not really a person that likes to travel, but I wanted my Sims to do so. All my Sim – and I am still not only disappointed but angry about the fact, that one of your developers said, that we can’t take toddlers and babies with us on vacations, because you wanted our Sims to have fun. Sorry, but the little one’s ARE fun – though you do the best you can try not to let this happen, by not offering baby-toys, clothes or more interactions with toddlers and babies. But I think this should go into another aspect of this post.
I was disappointed about all the news for Bon Voyage, still wanted to give you and the game a chance and bought the expansion pack. My Sims had one single holiday – and then never ever again. The fact that I can’t take my whole family with me doesn’t make me feel comfortable with this feature, and besides this I was always and again comparing it with Vacations. Where are those funny objects to play with? Balloons, Skiing, having a picnic and rub sun cream on the back of your PARTNER (which was always cute to watch). So together with the discriminating aspects for toddlers, babies and pets, this expansion pack again was, in my opinion, not of high quality.
What I think about Free Time? Well, at least there is no Sims 1 expansion pack to compare with, so I think this is a bonus for you. Otherwise it would show even more, how the quality standard got worse over all the years. The idea of Sims having hobbies was great. REALLY great, I think. What you made out of this idea was more fair than great. Playing soccer with only two Sims… I didn’t want to have 11 Sims on the field, but why not let two or three Sims join the other pair of Sims? The same goes for basketball.
A lot of parts of the games are not really logical and, by the way, annoying. Every time my Sims watch TV someone is calling and telling them, that they have now a great knowledge of Films and literature – because they watch one single romance film? Sorry? And a Sim that cooks a meal every day just to survive, is always an impassionate cook? Well, at least I can solve the problem of the constantly ringing phone by buying your newest expansion pack and setting the phones to mute… I hope you get the irony in my post. To be honest, it is sarcasm this time. Because with the quality of the Expansions, this time also my patience have gone down the hill.
It is to early to talk about any impressions about Apartment Life yet, so I will skip my revision on this. Just to put it in a nutshell now: I had fun, playing Sims 2 (base game), nightlife, university and open for business. These expansion packs were full of lovely details and I could feel, that the developers are Sim players, too. The other expansion packs had a huge lack of quality, with seasons being the only exception in my opinion. And I am not talking about personal taste, I am talking about bugs, missing features, bad features and hard facts.
Interesting to see, that the packs that I am not satisfied with are all produced by EA only, the ones I love are co-produced by Maxis. Very interesting, in fact…
Stuff Packs
But now lets go to the Stuff Packs. I remember the Sims 1 times, when we get an object the community wanted to download for free. I remember Will Wright, a nice man, listening to us and our ideas… anyway. For people that do not like to download, the Stuff packs are great. What is not so great about them, is the fact, that a lot of the objects won’t have the functions of the new expansion packs. Please don’t tell me, that this is, because you don’t want to force any of your players to buy every expansion pack. I don’t accept this argument. Why? Because it would be VERY easy to make several versions of these few objects, and let either the player manually, or a program decide, which object version is needed for which game. Or at least offer a patch for these things!
This brings me to another memory. I remember one of your Maxoids said in another context (sorry, I can’t remember exactly what it was) : “Oh, we didn’t think about that, but we’re sure the creators of SimPE will find a solution for this!”
Pardon? I am paying you with buying your products, and should wait then for some hardworking players programming a patch FOR FREE in their free time? An unofficial patch, you won’t support? I would laugh out loud, if it wouldn’t be so sad.
The Sims 3
Let’s face it: There won’t be any more expansions for the Sims 2, and so no chance for EA or whomever, to let the quality go up again in this game. The only thing that is still an option, it to produce better expansion packs for the Sims 3. But maybe they should start with a better base game.
First of all: I really adore the new CAS System. All the new features in CAS are absolutely stunning, and the different traits sound very interesting – a Sim that it is unique like a snowflake? Something I waited for, forever. A new Job system, that requires more things than just getting friends and building skills, sitting lazy on the couch? Great! There is the love for the detail, I’ve missed for so long.
But wait… what does a Sim that is unique like a snowflake give to me, when I miss his entire life, just because I am playing with another family? I am a player, that likes to play more than one family. And I love all of my families. I like playing god, choosing a partner for them, deciding how many babies they have, when they will have babies, what names the babies get. This is part of my decision, my imagination. It is part of the story that I develop for my neighborhood and my Sims.
You said, you don’t want to add a multiple player feature to the Sims 3, because you learned that the players don’t want to mess anybody up with their neighborhood. Well, I think you are right here! Definitely! But what is the difference about one of my friends messing up with my Sims, and the game itself messing up with them? If I don’t want my friends to decide who marry who, why should I let a programmed random generator decide?
Sorry, but my Sims are my dollhouse for adults, and I am not willing to give up any of my control to the game. If I want to play a role play game, I go out and buy one. There are enough out there. But if I want to play a life simulation (that is what the game has been for years), I would like to play the Sims. The Sims 2, in my situation, since I am sure you won’t again listen to a lot of complaining players. Teach me, that I am wrong… I would love to apologize!
But before you answer to this part of my mail, let me assure you, that I am aware of the fact, that a lot of players wanted a seamless neighborhood with all Sims aging together. I understand this wish, so all what I am saying is: Make this features optional for every family. I would like to decide, which family is allowed to marry and reproduce by themselves, and which is not! I think this is, what makes the Sims 2 base game so successful: That, even if you don’t want your Sims to die and age, you don’t have too. You are still able to play the game the way you want, And if this is the Sims 1 style, it’s fine. (By the way, I am not playing it the Sims 1 style, I love the aging system.)
But the whole autonomous thing is not the only part, were you take away the creativity from the players. Now we will have lots, that are not moveable throughout the whole neighborhood. And because of the rabbit holes, we won’t even be able to create a new neighborhood with a special type of architecture or whatever, because we will need the same rabbit holes in every single neighborhood. Sad. Very sad.
And last but not least: I really don’t get why you will include growing vegetables in the base game, but no whether. The ocean, but no swimming in it. Do we really need to pay 2 X 30 € again, to get this features into the game? I am not complaining about a company like you making money. I am complaining about the way how you make it. On the one hand you say, you want to include as most features of the Sims 2 expansions as possible in the Sims 3 base game, on the other hand we have to wait again, just for those things. Growing vegetables without weather is NOT fun.
I loved playing the Sims 1, and the expansion packs were of higher standards, but this does not mean I would like every single aspect of the Sims 1 game back in, almost 10 years later. Make money with the Sims-cash-cow, but make it with new, great, detailed and innovative ideas, not with warming up old ideas ever and ever again. And to clarify this, too: I am not saying you should include every feature of the Sims 2 expansion packs in the Sims 3 base game. At the moment I am just talking about whether, swimming in the ocean, creating a totally new neighborhood. Indeed, I am happy that you won’t include pets in the base game, since this is the only chance you would spend more effort on them, this time.
But as I said, after being a loyal costumer from 2001 until now, I am out of it with the Sims 3. My decisions, my imaginations – everything not compatible with the autonomy in the Sims 3.
Some more…
As a member of the biggest German Sim Community, let me give you an advise:

I hope you can see my topic as a nice push in the right direction, and not as harassment or whatever. Thanks for reading (though I doubt, any EA producer will read. I am disaffected.)
"Do we really need to pay 2 X 30 € again, to get this features into the game? I am not complaining about a company like you making money."
Kennst du den Thread "Do you think EA REALLY listen?"
